free betOne of the things I am most proud of about our club is that Celtic is all embracing.  Yes we celebrate our Irish immigrant history and our Catholic roots but most importantly we have always been welcome to all.  Of the Celtic fans I am friendly with 4 are Sikhs, 4 are Church of Scotland, 2 are Muslim and one is Jewish.  Many are Catholic and others I don’t know and don’t care.  It’s for that reason I have no truck with the “Celtic Minded” comments of a few among us and why I adhere strongly to Jock Stein’s comments about singing Celtic songs.  However (and for those with no interest in the Papal visit I apologise) I am sick and fed up with middle England, Radio and TV… or to give it it’s formal name the BBC, whinging and having endless phone-ins about the Papal visit!

5 Live is the worst with it’s new labour “offend no-one let’s be all inclusive” presenters and “I live in Tunbridge Wells, drive a 4x4 but feel guilty so vote Green” listeners.  Where’s you’re phone-in about whether the Queen’s worth it.  And whilst we’re on the topic of costs, lets look at how much it cost to police Orange walks over the past 150 years, then divide the amount by 2.  We’ll then see who costs more!  Rant.  For the agnostics and atheists you can read on from this point.

What a week last week.  I always put on the 6 SPL predictions as correct score (and accumulator) and correct result (and accumulator).  Three correct scores, 4 correct results – quids in!  Can we do it again this week?  Read on McDuff…

Obviously the last game at Kilmarnock was a blip.  Also it means they can’t trot out the “last time Kilmarnock beat Celtic was…” and you think – “that run’s got to end some time!!!”  So three goals to the hoops seems a common amount, but then again our two away fixtures this season have finished one nil to the Celtic.  Mmmmm

Another bet for those who don’t take life too seriously;

Paddy Power are famous for their Papal betting having been the first ever bookmaker to offer odds on the next Pope, even opening up a world famous bookie’s stall in St Peter’s Square when Benedict was appointed in 2005. Francis Arinze of Nigeria is currently a hot 2/1 favourite to succeed Benedict to become the next Pope.

A competition is underway to find out which City is the UK's Curry Capital!

Glasgow will be judged by the restaurants nominated by the public.

Would you consider nominating our favourite hoops Indian restaurant - Bombay Blues, 41 Hope Street, Glasgow G2 6AE?

You can nominate by logging onto:
www.glasgow.gov.uk/currycapital

or by emailing: groveint@aol.com

or telephoning: 020 8399 4831

Hopefully we can have the week we had last – especially if I get the Dundee Utd score right!

Tempted to stick a quid on Bono being the next pope.

I'm sure Bono thinks he's got a good chance!

Stoke, Motherwell, Hibs a decent treble.

I've been up and down england and now living in London, I can confirm that if you've been brought up in Glasgow, it is pointless going for a Curry elsewhere cause it's not a patch on glasgow. Same with fish suppers. Mother India & wee curry shop r my favs. bombay blues decent as well though.

Reckon Bono would do a better job of it than the rest of them put together might even see some up to date & well over due changes in the Roman Catholic Church BTW was the first Indian Curries not served @ The Empire Exhibition in 1953 @ Bellahouston.

I pondered about oranges walk costs against the cost of the Pope's visit. The Pope is costing the UK tax payer £20m. Orange walks just in Glasgow (and remember 74% of all official marches, demos etc in Scotland are Orange Walks) cost £1.75m p.a. just in policing costs, never mind road closures, clean up etc which is included in £20m Pope costs. But this is a betting column, so I'm going for the Honduran.

@ the end of the day if anybody has a problem with the tax bill for the popes visit then they should take it out on the Queen she invited him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
