1. Keeper , though I was young 10 in 67 from Simpson to today, I agree THG was the best I've seen. I though you were a tad harsh on packie, not the greatest keeper we've seen but more than decent, some of the defences he had in front of him or not as was usually the case did him no favours.
2. Centre midfield to Centre half .. can work, it work really well I thought when we bought Tom McAdam from Dundee Utd Centre Forward moved to Centre Half decent hunskleper.
IMO the money would be much better spent elsewhere in the team. What did Cardiff win last season? They took a gamble by bringing in Bellamy when they couldnt afford him and it failed.
The cynic in me tells me Lawell is rolling this story out yet again in a bid to shift season books.
Like you I have serious reservations about our pre season. We should not be on a tour of Australia which will not see us return until 1 week before the season starts. Even the itinerary in Australia is bonkers. Sydney-Perth-Melbourne is logistically daft and only adds extra strain on the squad.
I know we say it every season but we really cannot afford to cede 4 in a row to the huns.
I really worry that the preparations in place leave the potential for the loss of some precious points in our opening 2 away games.
Our transfer dealings so far are uninspiring but the current squad should be more than capable if properly prepared. The question is are we?
Sorry to break the news. With the downsizing in recent we have a Championship level squad.
We are not going to get Shay Given or Bellamy for that matter. Fraser Forster is lacking in some parts of his game but he performed reasonably well last season and will continue to improve.
Unless Lenny pulls a rabbit out of the hat, Forster looks our best goalkeeping option for next season - if we can get him.
The likelihood is that we will be gazumped by the mighty Norwich.
I with other supporters were at the match last Saurday, and you could say that jet lag, played it part, no excuse for the pitch incursions, they do warn you, and spell out the consequences.
The main problem with this tour especially in Sydney, although there was the 30 second sound byte in the local (Sydney) media,it was always going to a big ask for any football code(soccer) to slay the media juggernaut ramping up for crucial state of origin Rugby League finale that was pre-occupying the Brisbane/Sydney media.Hence it made bigger news back in Scotland, than it did here.
This was for fans, and full marks to Celtic for making the effort, and it was pre-season. I disagree that Celtic should stay close to home, there are lot of fans made up of ex-pats, and locals such as myself from Scots-Irish catholic background who appreciate that the fan base is recognised.
We are in Australia because that where the best money was available.
If a Hungarian (or insert your country of choice) promoter had offered more money we would be in Hungary recognising the fanbase in Budapest.
At least the players would not be flying half way around the world one week before the start of the league season.
Also, with Lenny being at the other side of the world it must have an impact on our ability to conclude transfer business.
A cynic might say that would be of little concern to some at the club.
They went to america for a few years and had similiar crowds at the games, there's probably a similiar ex-pat population. But when celtic go home, these guys go back to their normal lives, buy the odd thing off the celtic shop and stream games online or watch them down the club where the club pays setanta a fee.
If celtic are seriously trying to convert born and bred Americans and Australians into watching SPL games then they're onto a Loser. You will get some sons/daughters of exiled scots/irish who are taken by their Da to watch the games in the pub and they follow that tradition, but that's it. THat's your market.
Great for the australians to have this down there. Personally I'm against the travel and fear a long and hectic schedule will catch up with us. Points could be surrendered early in the season that could cost us.
Is there an actual reason why the season kicks off so early?
