Podcast 131: George Galloway on Celtic, Rangers & Letter Bombs PDF Print E-mail
Written by Eddie Pearson
Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:09

podcast-badgeGeorge Galloway joins Harry and Eddie this week and together they discuss the recent letter bomb campaign against Neil Lennon, they look at the underlying reasons for this sickness in Scottish society and discuss what can be done to fix it. George gives his thoughts on sectarianism and racism in Scotland and why things have reached this stage. He tells us what he would do to change things if he had the opportunity and why Scotland's shame needs to be addressed. The group are interrupted by a familiar, and very relaxed given the circumstances, face while they are talking...

We finish with the Human Torpedo who tells us another tale from the Celtic wiki -"Celtic's Bayard"

Along with the Bill McIntosh podcast, this was the best one yet. Well done.

By the way, the bomb story was on the news across Latin America last night.

I'll post up a couple of articles when i finally get round to finishing them off...been really busy lately.

It was going all so well until you asked him about Sunday's line-up. The guy obviously only follows the club off the field and not on the pitch.
Good podcast again.

New York Times ran coverage of the story about bombs for Irish Catholics in Scotland today. Wall Street Journal covered the story yesterday.

Great podcast. I've always admired Mr Galloway (forgetting his Big Brother embarrassment) and enjoyed his remarks both on his political views and on our beloved Glasgow Celtic. Well done ! Perhaps he will have a few more votes heading his way after people have listened to this. Hail Hail!

I wasn't aware of that. If I'd know that I would have asked him about it.

He was saying that about the way Lennon squared up to McCoist, and pointed out that the big names of the past would never have been so foolish.

Not much wrong in there.

To go back to my original post when GG was asked about Sunday; he was overly critical of the current side. Is he totally unaware of the football Neil Lennon has got this side playing & The players Lennon has brought in?... Emilio, Big Dan, Kayal, Ledley, Hooper..
He mentioned Commons - only probably because he just happened to score on 1 of the very few matches he's attended.
And then to be critical of the board. Again because of off field events. Nothing to do with Celtic Football Club.
Pfft..

As usual, in informative show, however...
1. I take offence to this man as he is nothing but a trouble maker
2. Celtic was founded as a club for all, and this buffoon was trying to nail in the fact that celtic is for left wingers!!!!! what a lot of nonsense.
3. We are a football club granted, with history and a past to be proud of....but we are a FOOTBALL CLUB! not a political organisation....

Keep up the good work, but less politics please!

You want less politics and yet you deliberately signed your crap as from Tel Aviv? Who do you think you're kidding?

I don't know anyone who supports Celtic who is right-wing.

Viva Palestina.

Well, there we go again,
I am a Jew, who was born in Glasgow, moved to Israel a number of years ago, voted liberal most of my voting years, votes "Kadima" which is a center/right party in Israel....live in a place called Rishon, south of Tel Aviv and FYI...worked at CFC for 4 years coaching in the academy....now work for Maccabi Tel Aviv...
But again, cfc is a football club and to what's Palestine got to do with CFC....NOTHING!

From the website:

Who is Celtic Football Club for?

Celtic Football Club is for people who want to support a football club that strives for excellence in Scotland and in Europe, is proud of its history, supportive of its local community and seeks to support the following aims: "To maximise all opportunities to disassociate the Club from sectarianism and bigotry of any kind. To promote Celtic as a Club for all people, regardless of gender, age, religion, race or ability."
That kind of sums it up...

Welcome dgfields and you're correct that Celtic is for everyone. We have enough baggae without importing any more and whether you're a Kayal or a Berkovic you're more than welcome to support the Bhoys.

I couldn't care less what you do or what your religion is or where you live - you're the one who made that a point. And what did you expect when listening to a George Galloway interview anyway?

I support the Palestinians because they are treated in a similar way to my family in Ireland were, by a religious invasion of people from foreign lands.

If you, or anyone else, can't see the connection between that and Palestine then you're either a fool or a liar.

To separate Celtic from politics would be to make it no different from Partick Thistle or others. Its entire history is based on a political position of helping the downtrodden and needy.

To have to explain these facts to anyone who claims to be a supporter of the club is pathetic.

+2 #19 dgfields 2011-04-25 20:20
I am not going to get into your argument about the "palestinians'...we will agree to disagree as I respect your views, but you should also respect mine....

Hail, Hail my friend and lets agree and hope that we win the league!!

A fantastic podcast from the indefatigable Gorgeous George...I remember sitting behind him and (I presume) his son at the main stand when we beat Dundee 3-0 to win the league in 1988.

My only disagreement is with his view that an independent Scotland would be less tolerant of 'minority' religions.

The work of the SNP has consistently embraced people from all faiths, colours and creed and an independent, republican Scotland would welcome one and all.
