With Rangers accepting defeat in one battle with HMRC and conceeding that losing the EBT case that the press have largely ignored, I wonder two things.
Firstly will they apologise for taking money away from schools and hospitals. Secondly will McCoist have to paraphrase this team talk to the current squad and his former colleagues over the last 20 years?
Mainly the 14 seconds to about 40 seconds! |

But here comes the fun part.
For every quid owed in tax there's one for each year in which tax payments have been deferred. So Rangers have been treating HMRC like a bank, and as we all know banks charge interest. So if £2.8 million is the figure owed in tax, then Rangers could owe anything from ten to twenty times that amount. A conservative estimate would be some £30 million, going as high as twice that amount.
Rangers set up the EBT so that they could tempt superstars on top wages to take them all to the way to European glory. So it was a case of buy now, pay later. Rangers spent money like it was going out of style only to realise that, as they failed so miserably in their conquest of Europe, that they would have to wait until they paid their dues. And it would seem as if HMRC are still waiting.
Rangers, or at least Murray, were seriously blinded by ambition. And it looks as though, whether Whyte agrees to buy or not, that Rangers will have to enter administration, like Leeds United who also owed the banks and the taxman big-time. And look what became of them.
So, in a nutshell, Rangers have not only cheated the schools and hospitals, it looks as though they have also cheated themselves. Oh the irony.
