P/C - Debate About Sectarianism - It's All Very Depressing PDF Print E-mail
Written by Harry Brady

Since the cup final, with the accusations from the Brazil v Scotland game stirring matters around, there has been much talk about the sectarian and racists problems which afflict our country.  It’s all been quite depressing.  Depressing because the talk has been so superficial, depressing because no actions have taken place and depressing because of the ignorance on the matter.  For example last week I had a conversation with a Dundee Utd fan who made reference to the people of Dundee being fed up with the sectarian songs of “the old firm.”  I agreed that we may sing some songs he found unpleasant but could he name the sectarian ones – “well there’s a debate to be had about the Fields of Athenry”  Eh?  That nonsense was followed up tonight with the guy on Clyde who, without put down, referred to The Soldier’s Song as a sectarian ditty.  These myths propagate because of the media’s determination to portray the problem as an Old Firm one with both sides at fault – all very depressing.

Away from this issue, which appears no closer to being resolved, we have a game of football this weekend and it’s a trip to Inverness where, historically, we rarely do anything more than scrape a win.  So I’ve already had a couple of predictions on twitter.  Let’s see who does best, comment below on Facebook or Twitter.

Surely it’s time we beat them by more than 1 goal up there (apart from once)?

The big questions in looking at bets this weekend are – will a Peter Houston Utd team put in a half decent performance at Ibrox, will Killie be rubbish following the departure of their boss and will one of our defenders NOT do something stupid in Inverness (as per Pressley or Loovens!)

So that’s the odds and stats for this week.  I have a sneaky suspicion that our mysterious Swedish number 7 may get a game this week although despite his appearances being almost as limited as Maloney’s this year, he’s only 7/2 as anytime scorer!
