In our top 10 players list for last season nuh hater Lachiemor published an excellent piece about Samaras. In this piece he commented that Samaras was by no means our worst player last term yet suffered at the hands of our loyal supporter base for being one of the chosen whipping bhoys. We all have our players who frustrate for some reason, and we all have players that we will be quick to pin the blame on when things go wrong, but I agree with Lachie Samaras is not the greatest, but also for some reason Samaras seems to be one who many are quick to criticise and so onto tonight against Braga and the decision to award him MOTM. At half time we were discussing the lack chances. Whilst my Dad criticised Samaras for not being in the box, I felt this was symptomatic of poor service and all we was doing was moving around the park to make himself available. Indeed at that stage I felt he’d been our best player. In the second half we upped the pace and tempo. If only Scott Brown could pick a pass as easily as he can pick a fight we really motor in midfield. Juarez seemed to move to a more central position and his enthusiasm and influence increased as the game went on. For me however, one man stood out as being involved in everything we did. Not everything came off, but he kept trying and kept creating. With 10 mins to go I sent a text to Eddie and Neil McCallum stating that there was only one player for MOTM – Samaras. At full time this was confirmed. At full time some booed. As I state above, we all have our favourites and we all have our whipping bhoys, but the boo boys must have been at a different game to me. Moreover, to boo a hoop who tries his best at the first home game of the season…! The club is better off without “supporters” like that. |

The sound of so called supporters booing one of their own is unforgiveable - perhaps put it down to the one match a season brigade?????
btw Scott brown is never a player as long as ive got a hole in my arse.
He can do that all day if he wants but he must take his chances infront of goal. He squandered 2 headers in the 1st half last night. None of them finding the target. He needs to become more ruthless or he'll be papped on before September or in the January transfer window.
If nothing else, since when did it matter who the suits named?!
The fans around me were genuinely outraged at the suggestion he was our best player on the park and reacted accordingly, Juarez being the consensus. To suggest they're not 'proper' supporters is just ridiculous. I don't agree with booing a Celtic player in any circumstance but this again was born out of pure Samaras-inspired frustration. I know that we all have different views of how a game is played but no-one out of a dozen or so I spoke to who were there thought he was our best player on Wednesday.
As usual he flattered to deceive. He missed a number of decent chances, especially with the head. He NEVER goes in where it hurts. Instead he spends ages outwith the opponent's penalty box, tracking as far as halfway into our own half where, more often than not, he loses possession and puts our defence under more pressure. He occasionally shows great passing ability, but again we've got enough midfielders to perform that role for us. How many times did he dance around the edge of their box without making a single incisive pass with teammates all around and in front?
In the eyes of most Celtic fans he's an imposter of a centre-forward. We saw everything he had to offer last season and it clearly isn't up to the standard we should expect of a Celtic striker. The fact the new manager seems to have been swayed by a few misleading pre-season performances is a real concern. We know he's not good enough for the job. He spends more effort into constantly re-positioning that feckin alice band or making bold theatrical gestures after each misplaced pass or wayward strike than working out how to get into damaging positions or linking up with colleagues. Earlier this year, away to Greenock Morton, he caused that lower league defence absolutely no trouble at all.
Sometimes as Celtic fans we're far too sympathetic and indulgent to those we really want to succeed yet know never will. I still hear occasionally people extolling the virtues of Stuart Slater! Let's not indulge big Georgios any longer as his record shows and his time in the Hoops clearly demonstrates he's not cut out for the job.
