Efraín Juárez Signs for Celtic - 12/07/10 Updated PDF Print E-mail

JuarezAccording to reports in Mexico which have been confirmed by the usual suspects in the East End of Glasgow, Celtic have signed World Cup defender Efraín Juárez. According to Fifa Juárez currently plays right back for Puma, however his Wikipedia entry refers to him as a right winger and he has been described as part of the Golden Generation of Mexican football. He has previously been on the books of Barcelona but work permit difficulties led to him returning to Mexico. he played in three of Mexico's matches in South Africa and recorded an 84% completion rate for passing. Obviously little is known about the player but given the comments below the report in Excelsior it looks like we have a good one - "Good player and magnificent athlete. If something good can be said it is that Mexico's performance in the World Cup taught the world about the quality of Mexican players.  Congratulations"

Our man in South American has found this documentary on the player. If you speak spanish any chance you tell us what it says?

Dim lights

. Well done to the huddleboard for spotting the article in the Mexican press.

i´ve barely seen juarez, as mexican football is rarely on argentinian tv, but he played well against the US in a recent world cup qualifier and again in the world cup itself.

after watching two documenatries about him, it seems as though he´ll be mexico´s right back for the next decade-so he must be pretty good.

it´s encouraging to see that celtic are looking towards south america...at last. he´s 22, seems to be an athletic attacking right back and should arrive açon reatively low wages and a high potential resale value. by the way, his club pumas are known in mexican football as continually producing good young players.

anyway, here are the opening parts of the two documentaries about juarez from mexican television. you can obviously view the rest of the documentaries by selecting part 2, 3 etc...

Eh, didn't we just sign a right back by the name of Cha Du-Ri?

So this is how PL & Dr Death announce that Hinkel is being moved on to downsize his wages?

Also;

InB4about 40 PLC. account down-vote me.

Yeah I heard about this. Could be very interesting. We don't have the money to buy young stars from Europe so we should be scouring South America, Asia and Africa. I'm only surprised it's taken so long.

Mark.........

Based on our current defensive situation do you think we might be planning to deploy this fella in a more offensive role? In saying that I believe Du Ri can be used in a variety of positions and that we may be planning to cash in on Hinkel (into final year of his contract) plus I believe Lennon doesn't rate Caddis.

Happy Dude.....

your not seriously pissed that we might have signed a good player that's on lower wages than Hinkel?

So what if Hinkel goes. Big deal. He's been okay but hardly sensational. In fact for a long time he's been down right disappointing.

If players on big wages such as Hinkel, Samaras, Loovens, McGeady etc can be sold to bring in decent transfer money and are replaced with younger, hungrier and ultimately more successful players then I for one am over the bloody moon. Don't equate big wages with good players. For exhibit A look at half the clubs down south. I can do without a winding up order, banks putting someone on the board and entering into administration thanks very much.

Fantastic signing if true.

Him and Ledley in is really showing some intent, something which I didn't really think would happen.

Saying that, this will probably pave the way for McGeady's departure now.

Best news of the transfer window so far………..we WON’T be signing Jimmy Bullard. The perennially overrated, consistently injured 31 year old championship player wanted in the region of 60 K a week to come and after the riotous laughter had calmed in the Celtic boardroom , wee Jimmy was told ‘Nae chance’ and departed with his golf brolly in tow back down to Hull where their chairman Adam Pearson, as he pondered the club’s currently perilous financial situation in-between gulps of whiskey, resisted the temptation to plug another needle into his Bullard voodoo doll!

Seriously though....the greedy wee shite must be out of his mind to expect that kind of money considering his fitness history and age plus the fact he's never actually achieved anything in his career. It's actually kinda funny. I mean what a chancer.

Financially this will be killing Hull. Pearson has really inherited a sinking ship there. No doubt Bullard is oblivious to this.

Hinkel is on big wages because he is a pro. He's been on of our most consistent performers over this past wee while.

We are trading him for some unknown quantity who probably doesn't even have a fake-bullshit-ipedia page.

Well, maybe when PL stops coming out with crap about how it'll be worth the wait when the manager is announced, (leading me to believe it'd be MON or similar) and then subsequently announcing Lennon as manager, I'll stop pointing out his shortcomings.

on sunday night it was being reported in mexico that juarez would not be going to celtic and that he preferred to play in either england or spain. this was then belatedly reported in the UK on tuesday and wednesday.

tonight in mexico, they are now reporting that although no official announcement has been made by either club, there has been a verbal agreement reached over the phone and that we are now just waiting for the documentation to arrive to the president of pumas, victor mahbub.

jorge fernandez, juarez´s representative, said that, 'The celtic offer was the one that everyone liked. What they offered was more ´real´ than the other proposals, they met our requests and for this reason it is the only possibility that is close to reality and that totally pleases us'

'Definitively, it is not closed today. I believe it will be during the course of the day tomorrow, however as Victor Mahbub (president of pumas) has not yet seen it, it can not be made a deal.

among the news stories published in mexico, the is some disagreement regarding the transfer fee and length of contract; one says that the fee is close to 3 million euros another that it is 3.5m euros. regarding the contract, one article claims that it is either 2 or 3 years with celtic retaining an option of a celtic having to option to extend it for a further year.

once the documentation is through and both parties can sign the papers, then it obviously can not be made official, but as eddie said on sunday afternoon, we have reached an agreement and it seems that when the documentation arrives tomorrow it should be a done deal, with an announcement to follow shortly.
