Podcast 176: The Ignorant Buffoon That Is Craig Burley PDF Print E-mail
Written by Eddie Pearson
Thursday, 08 March 2012 00:12

podcast-badgeThis week Eddie is joined by Sean Huddleston, regular contributor to the Celticunderground site and author of Celtic In The Eighties - The Lost Decade.

The guys discuss the recent match against Aberdeen and marvel at the continuation of our unbeaten run. They review the team selection and in particular the two new players who made their debut at left and right back. Eddie explains why Lustig will need to sharpen up his personal grooming considerably to get the Pearson seal of approval. Then the lads discuss what an arse Craig Burley is.

Next they take a look back at the Eighties and identify the seeds of Rangers downfall. Sean explains why he considers this to be a decade of missed opportunity and points the finger at the guilty parties.

Finally the guys look ahead to the forthcoming match against Dundee United and, despite the lack of a strong Rangers, both agree that this will be a tough match for the bhoys.

The Human Torpedo returns along with Mogwai for another tale from the Celtic wiki -"Final of Firsts"

Eddie,

Am a new listener and just heard your superb chat with Sean.

If OUR title is tainted as per CB comments and last week's Mark Hately column in the dr, what does that say for their 9-in-a-row and various cup wins since Murray and Souness took over?

I kind of don't want them to disappear but I do know I want them to be held to account and punished for the way they've cheated Scotland (and Europe to a certain extent) for 15 years. I also notice UEFA and FIFA have been noticeably very quiet lately.

Regards

Hi guys,

Great podcast again.

In the spirit of the hour, I thought I would share the email that I sent to ESPN's feedback section on Monday.

To whom it may concern,

I am a regular viewer of your SPL coverage, and I find it to be generally of very high quality. However, one unfortunate blot has just deteriorated throughout the term of your coverage of SPL soccer. Namely, Craig Burley, and more specifically his pathetic excuse for expert analysis. The negative and deliberately controversial dross that Craig Burley continually spouts on your channel makes a mockery of the Scottish game

During this season his contributions have been cringeworthy and inflammatory. His comments during the St. Johnstone v Rangers game regarding Fran Sandaza were a disgrace and completely derogatory about the Scottish game, Rangers Football Club and the player in question. His muck-stirring during last weekends Aberdeen v Celtic match was so ill-concieved and disrespectful that it drew a well merited rebuke from Celtic manager Neil Lennon. His comments about Celtic's title win being 'devalued' and his slurs on Anthony Stokes, which he also indulged in during your coverage of Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Celtic earlier in the season were unnecessary and mean-spirited. When discussing Celtic's Kris Commons' loss of form this season he referred to some "other issues." What does this mean? What does it refer to? Is it now the remit of football pundits to indulge in gossip and conjecture? This is another example of this man's constant attention seeking and willingness to spout controversial nonsense.

This simpleton constantly degrades the Scottish game, particularly one club. His comments cheapen the product that you are serving and reflect very poorly on your network. There is nothing remotely rewarding about his contributions, and for these reasons I will not be renewing my subscription to ESPN next season.

Yours sincerely,

We need to organise an anti Burley protest asap! I'd love it if we could remove that halfwit from ESPN, if TIG can humiliate Craig Whyte then this should be far easier

Great podcast as always guys, I hate modern technology - Ironic considering my Internet obsession - but I will definitely check out Sean's book. Hail Hail
