Boruc_farewellArtur Boruc today agreed to join Fiorentina on a two year contract. The fee is being reported in Italy as being 2 million euros and in Scotland as £3 million. Boruc has been in discussion with Fiorentina for the past fortnight and was set to head to America with the rest of the squad when the news came through that a deal had been agreed to take him to Italy. This deal was only confirmed after Boruc had boarded the plane at Heathrow to Philadelphia and the flight was delayed as both Boruc and his baggage had to be removed. Boruc will complete a medical within the next 48 hours and will formally join Fiorentina after this.

The sale of Boruc is expected to free up wages which, alongside Aiden McGeady's salary, will go towards bringing a top class striker to the club.

Boruc has been the best goal keeper in a generation at the club but there is no denying that he had lost his way somewhat over the past two seasons. Regardless of this all at Celticunderground wish him the best of luck with his new club. The Holy Goalie will always be welcomed at Celtic Park.

If that is the real fee then there is going to be hell to pay. We let the best Celtic goalkeeper in the last 30 years leave the club for just over a million pounds????? Someone needs a good kicking for that...

It looks like it's a wages thing here - they want to use the money elsewhere. The transfer fee is secondary to getting the player off the wage bill.

Still Eddie...2 million Euro???????

The days of us putting a £6-8 million value on him are long gone but we should be getting at least 4 mill considering his calibre and profile. On hindsight, letting him go 2 years ago would have been the best for both parties but no one has a crystal ball.
Still I wish him all the best and he'll always have a place close to my heart for just how insane and off the wall as well as brilliant he could be. A great character and even better keeper.
Hopefully our journos got it right for once. 3 million would still be underwhelming but 2 million euros?!!!!!Thats a pittance.

Absolute scandal.

No goodbye from big artur, no nothing, f*ck Peter Lawell, and f)ck the board, big artur is a bigger tim than all of them.

You expect me to pay money to turn out to watch Zaluska gainst St f3cking mirren?

VEry good.

Our probable line up as things stand -

Zaluszka
Cha
Mulgrew
Hooiveld
Loovens
Brown
Ki
Ledley
Maloney
MAF
Rasmussen

Their probable line up -

McGregor
Whittaker
Papac
Bougherra
Webster
Davis
McCulloch
Edu
Lafferty
Fleck
Miller

Not much between them. I hope we get active as i would take 7 out of the 11 from their team. A lot of work to be done before I'm confident we'll beat them without relying on Neil getting players to over-achieve or them succumbing to injuries.

Now now happy dude mind your language a lot of hypocrites about your only allowed to swear on podcasts Boruc leaving was a great goalkeeper but IMHO last 2 seasons has been nowhere near his best in agreement with Straven opinion.

Is there some reason why we can't give him a new contract? We're not the huns, you know.

Personally I feel a little (a lot?) deflated. This isnt the pre-season signing approach I had in mind. We've spent millions on lots of players rather than concentrate it on a bit of class. Now we are selling our best players when we need them the most i.e. champions league qualifying.
Can we not sell Brown the hun? McGeady the phoney?
And anybody who thinks that lenny will stand up to lawell is dreaming - Lawell got him the job and he owes him. He wont rock the boat (board?) - see his comments about the board after the Ross county game.
We've signed a former celtic reject and Korean nobody who nobody in europe was in for. I thought Ledley was a step in the right direction but this is quite frankly a blow. I take on board peoples' points about Boruc possibly leaving next year for nothing (stratheven for example) but taking 2 million now (or less according to some reports) instead of keeping him and getting 10 million through champs league qualification makes no sense to me.
I could be veyr cynical and point out that this will do no harm to lawells chances of getting a nice big bonus this year...
